Open
MRI systems, which typically are 20% as powerful as a traditional
MRI
system, have been available in the market for approximately
five years. These Open systems typically require longer scan
times and lack the ability to perform certain applications
due to the weaker magnet.
“With the Signa OpenSpeed, GE has set
a new standard for imaging power and quality in an open design,”
said Dr. Belton, “This system has the potential to completely
change the way we think of high-field MR imaging.”
Dennis
Cooke, General Manager of Global MR for GE Medical Systems,
added, "GE's Six Sigma methodology allowed us to develop
this system in less than 18 months from the original concept,
which is less than half the time that would have been required
otherwise. The result is a breakthrough technology that more
closely than ever before satisfies the needs of patients and
doctors.”
